FAQs

Any colour inspiration?

No longer are outdoor spaces limited to just flowers and plants. Nowadays, our gardens are a home away from home, a personalised private retreat for reflection and comfort. When it comes to garden fences, you may not get too excited. After all, it’s just a functional addition to our homes, right? Wrong.

We’ve been looking at our fences all wrong, according to Marianne Shillingford, Cuprinol Colour Expert and Creative Director, who sees a garden fence as another opportunity to get creative. In fact, Marianne refers to gardens as “an extension of our homes,” which should be given “as much care and attention as we do for our interiors.” It’s time to move away from the standard oranges.

To help you revamp your ordinary garden fence, Marianne has shared her five top tips on how to use Cuprinol fence colours to help bring the beauty of your garden to life.

Which colours are on-trend?

Tip One: Relaxed Gardens

For those of us who retire to our gardens for a moment to ourselves, organic and natural tones are best. Marianne recommends nature-inspired shades such as Dusted Aloe or Delicate Pine, which are natural tones that “create a peaceful escape that can bring calmness to your surroundings.” Perfect.

Tip Two: Small Gardens

If you have a balcony or a smaller outdoor space, Marianne recommends Herring Grey or Misty Heathland, colours which “will soften and blur the frame of your garden and make it look much bigger than it is.” Not only that, but these spring colours will inject some much-needed comfort.

Tip Three: Bigger Gardens

Larger gardens are wonderful – and can benefit from an array of colours. After all, there’s space to experiment. Match Misty Heathland with bold colours to make them ‘pop’, says Marianne. “This gorgeous tone adds a beautiful backdrop to the space, creating a welcoming environment outdoors.”

Tip Four: Modern Gardens

Garden fences that could do with a bold, modern look to set it apart from the others. For our namesake, Modern Gardens, Marianne says black. Though a little daunting, she explains that gardens filled with pots and foliage plants could benefit from a distinct graphic quality that black can deliver.

Tip Five: Feature Framing

Mixing and matching colours seems to be on-trend for interiors, so why not for our fences? Marianne suggests a combination of colours on one panel if you’re feeling creative. She adds: “Keep the darker colour at the bottom to show off brightly coloured furniture and to make floral arrangements pop.”

Tip Six: Incorporating Sheds

Aren’t garden sheds terrific? Marianne suggests incorporating your favourite garden storage with your new fence colour. If you want to have your shed blend in, “paint your shed the same colour as your fences.” Cuprinol’s paint will protect the wood. Or, why not go bold with a contrasting colour?
