Katie Masters writes regularly for Modern Gardens and loves everything to do with being outside – especially when it involves a deckchair and a weekend. Her north-facing garden has a suntrap right at the bottom, which everyone heads for on summer evenings. She says: "My favourite bit of the garden is my herb bed, which offers maximum joy for minimum effort. It's full of rosemary, thyme and sage, plus a very hardy lovage plant, which shoots up every summer and towers over everything else, and sweet woodruff, which produces loads of delicate white flowers every spring. There's nothing better than a plant that looks beautiful, smells amazing, and tastes delicious!"
