Emma Kendell is a former editor of Modern Gardens, with 20 years’ experience writing, styling and editing national magazine titles. Her garden is forever a work in progress, a space for outdoor living with room for nature to call it home, too.

A sucker for a beautiful bloom, and forever gathering new ideas to try from Modern Gardens, Emma likes to think of her garden as an outlet for her creativity, whether that’s rethinking a raised bed or squeezing in another foxglove or two. She loves that gardening is a learning curve with no end, and there’s always something new to try.

Emma believes that everyone can have a beautiful garden, and it needn’t cost the earth, whether you’re counting in pounds or impact on our planet. Unashamedly stealing designer ideas to DIY in her own garden, she’s keen to share the know-how that makes it simple and affordable to create and enjoy a gorgeous garden, whether you’ve got green fingers or not. But above all, she’s passionate about achieving a contemporary look which still welcomes wildlife. And let’s be clear that pouring the perfect patio G&T absolutely falls under the remit of gardening in Emma’s book!

Emma’s journalism career got off to a great start, winning PMA New Journalist of the Year, and she has since worked for many national titles, mostly involving a range of outdoor activities from horse riding to walking, mountain biking to mountaineering, and now gardening. She says she just has to be outside and if she hasn’t found the time for a potter out in the garden, she just doesn’t feel the same. Having a garden brings her so much joy, and it’s where she feels most at home.
